The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) and the Berkeley Heights Diversity Council (BHDC) have partnered up once again to bring the Lunar New Year Festival to the community! This year in addition to performances, arts and crafts, amazing food and more, the SAY and BHDC Lunar New Year Festival Committee is proud to announce a 2019 Lunar New Year Festival Art Contest for all high schoolers residing in Summit, Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Millburn, Springfield, Short Hills, Gillette, and Stirling!
The artwork must be a 2D, hand drawn or painted piece of art (“Artwork”) that is no larger than the dimensions of 24 inches x 36 inches themed around inspiring others to appreciate diversity, community, cultural acceptance and welcoming during the Lunar New Year. Most exciting is that first place winners for each grade level (Grades 9-12) will receive not only a $50 Visa Gift Card but also a free 1-Month Teen Membership with the Summit Area YMCA!
Members and Community Members will be able to submit votes per art piece displayed at the Berkeley Heights YMCA between January 16 - January 25. Winners will be contacted to attend the 2019 Lunar New Year Festival to receive recognition for their accomplishment and their prizes on February 2, 2019.
The SAY is dedicated to strengthening the community through providing all individuals with opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. It is in our hopes that with the 2019 Lunar New Year Festival Art Contest, the community's youth may engage in an activity that sparks creativity and appreciation for not only diversity and welcoming practices, but also in understanding the Y's core values in respect, honesty, caring and responsibility. Through its various programs, events, and services, the Summit Area YMCA strives to offer everyone opportunities to reach their full potential.
We are excited to once again bring the committee another exciting Lunar New Year Festival in 2019!
