Candles Across Berkeley Heights

A member of our community has suggested, and the Berkeley Heights Diversity Council fully supports and endorses, the idea to have as many residents as possible place a candle on our porches or in our windows each night (approx 7-9pm) this week to symbolize our commitment to ending racism and all the systematic and systemic oppressions of people of color that have our country so torn.

Please join us starting TONIGHT by placing a candle on your porch or in a window from 7 - 9pm.

Events across our country in the last week bring to the surface the racism and bias that continue to plague our nation.  The senseless murder of George Floyd by an officer of the law while others watched is tragic and terrifying.  As our country reacts and responds, we encourage a collective peaceful and positive message of unity, of light, and of realization.  We hope this symbolism reminds everyone that it is time to end our silence, to educate ourselves and everyone around us of all ages, and to end the oppressions that have plagued our nation.

The Berkeley Heights Diversity Council was founded to honor and embrace the diverse cultures and perspectives within Berkeley Heights. Our goal is to spread awareness and inclusion.

The BHDC is open and welcoming to all who reside in Berkeley Heights wishing to celebrate the diversity of our great town together and can be reached at BHdiversity@gmail.com
